In 2015, Oppo launch a series of Oppo A53 with limited advancements, and soon it was kicked out of the market 5 years later, in August 2020, Oppo launched A53 2020 once again, and it was appreciated for its budget-friendly price, giving tough competition to its competitors. Its colors during its launch were Electric Black, Fairy White, and Fancy Blue. But soon it disappeared from the market as well.

This smartphone series was launched by the company Oppo in August 2020 after the disappointing Oppo A53 2015. It  was heavily criticised for the costly price of the phone for average features it was offering. The company’s vision was to provide advanced features smartphones at an affordable price. Features of Oppo A53

Display:

  • There was a 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with HD+ resolution (720×1600 pixels) and 90Hz refresh rate.
  • There was a punch-hole like design for the front camera.
  • The Screen was protect with Gorilla Glass 3.
  • It weighed around 186 grams and its dimensions were 169.3 x 75.1 x 8.6 mm.

Functionality:

  • It ran on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 octa-core processor (1.8 GHz).
  • There were two RAMs available during that time:4GB RAM AND 6GB RAM.
  • Adding on the RAMs ; there were two storage options available that were 64GB or 128GB internal storage; it was expandable up to 256 GB  via microSD 
  • It was support by Android 10 with ColorOS 7.2.

Camera:

  • There was a Triple rear camera setup in the back camera: 13 MP primary (f/2.2), 2 MP macro, 2 MP depth sensor.
  • Front camera: There was a 16 MP (f/2.0) lens for selfies.
  • The rear cameras had LED flash 
  • The quality of video recording was up to 1080p at 30fps.

Battery and Charging:

  • It  use a lithium- ion battery model BLP803 that had a capacity of 5000mAh. It had a 18W charger use for fast charging using a Type-C USB. 
  • The battery helped in phone usage up to 10-12 hours. 

Connectivity:

  • It had dual Nano-SIM slots with 4G LTE support (including Band 40 for India).
  • The Wi-Fi connectivity was around  802.11 a/b/g/n/ac and the  Bluetooth was 5.0, GPS with A-GPS and Glonass. 
  •  It had a 3.5mm headphone jack.
  • The 5G connectivity wasn’t supported on Oppo A53 2020 as 5G was launched in India in 2022. 

Other Features:

  • It had a fingerprint sensor for privacy reasons.

Reviews: Oppo A53   

During its launch in August 2020, it received mixed reviews. While some appreciat the affordable price it was being sold at and the battery life.  Others criticized the limited software and hardware upgradation which restricted heavy use of gaming applications. Other features noted by the customers were :

Design : The smartphone was sleek, slim and stylish giving it a premium look. 

Audio & Sound: The dual stereo speakers with Dirac’s automatic audio provide clear sound and a good listening experience. 

Functionality : The Qualcomm Snapdragon 460 processor was a major point of criticism. It was observe that the phone was slow and lagged a lot during heavy usage of apps. 

Camera Quality: The 13 MP main sensor and 2 MP macro/depth sensors could not provide clear and sharp pictures. The lack of Ultrawide lens was also called out.  

Why is Oppo A53 not seen anymore?

As discussed in the previous section, Oppo A53 received mixed reviews upon its launch from praises for its affordability, battery usage  to criticisms for lagging, lack of software and hardware upgradation. These reasons led to the people preferring other smartphones over it in the same price range, advanced features, supporting gaming applications, etc. Other reasons included in its discontinuation were : 

Outdated Software & hardware : The software and hardware installed in Oppo A53 

were outdate according to the standards of 2020. Other smartphones had better advanced components installed in it at the same price range. 

Continuous upgradation: Oppo A53 didn’t reinvent itself with the continuous technological advancements the other smartphones were doing. So it led to the smartphone not being known for its good reputation in the market. 

Tough Competitors: Other smartphones such as Xiaomi, Realme, Samsung launched their smartphones series with better features at same or lower prices. 

Product Lifecycle: Tech Companies usually have limited production cycles, as Oppo might have wanted to capitalize on Oppo as a brand after the release of its previous smartphones, so it decided to launch other smartphones such as Oppo A53s 5G 

Is Oppo A53 available in the market in 2025 ? 

No, with the continuous criticisms of its features by the standards of 2020 and facing tough competition in the market, it slowly started disappearing from the market. People chose other brands that had much better features to offer and displayed constant innovation from their components’ upgradation. Consumers even start preferring its own series smartphone, Oppo A53s 5g launched in 2021, which was marketed an affordable 5g in 2021. 

However one needs to keep in mind few things before buying this phone: 

Availability: As it is found in refurbishes sites, the stocks may be inconsistent and infrequent due to the discontinuation of the production. 

Prices: One needs to check the prices in different refurbished websites and retailers to get a fair deal. 

Condition: One needs to ensure the condition of the smartphone before purchasing, especially on online sites. 

Warranty: Refurbished Oppo A53 may have limited warranty but use smartphones might not have Oppo warranty so the customers need to look for the smartphone according to their  need. 

Conclusion 

The Company Oppo launched its series  in August 2020 after its first launch in 2015. It could have been Oppo A53 2.0 , but it was not able to sustain in the market for long. Its poor features, lack of innovation and upgradation and being in the tough market where its competitors had many things to offer led to its downfall. Even after facing criticisms, the company didn’t reinvent the series and instead focuse on launching its other smartphones. In the end, customers didn’t prefer this and purchased other smartphones. Today, in 2025, Oppo A53 is not in the market. Though, the refurbished and use smartphones are available in refurbished sites and retailers.
